Free Printable Haunted House Craft

This printable 3D haunted house is an easy Halloween craft that combines coloring with a hands-on building activity. Kids can customize their haunted house with traditional Halloween colors or come up with their own spooky color combinations.

The haunted house features classic Halloween details, including ghosts, bats, a spider and its web, brick walls, and a shingled roof. There’s also a creepy front door with a “Do Not Enter” sign to give the house an extra spooky touch!

Unlike a regular Halloween coloring page, this printable turns into a three-dimensional paper house that kids can display when they’re done. It’s a fun way to extend a simple coloring activity into a creative Halloween project.

Supplies Needed

You’ll only need a few basic supplies to make this printable 3D haunted house.

Cardstock will help make the finished haunted house sturdier, especially if you want to keep it as a Halloween decoration. Regular printer paper can work too, so use whatever you have available!

How to Make the 3D Haunted House Craft

Follow these simple steps to turn the printable haunted house template into a spooky 3D paper craft. I’ve also created a quick video showing you how to assemble the haunted house that you can check out below.

Step 1: Print the Haunted House Template

Download and print the free printable haunted house template. Make sure the entire template fits on the page so all the house panels and tabs are included.

For a sturdier finished craft, print the template on cardstock. If you’re making this project with a group of kids, regular printer paper is also a good option.

Step 2: Color the Haunted House

Before cutting anything out, let the kids color their haunted house template. This is the perfect time to get creative with Halloween colors!

Color the roof black or dark gray, add bright colors to the stained-glass window, and give the front door a spooky shade of brown, red, or purple. Kids can also color the ghosts, bats, spiderwebs, and other little details on the house.

Encourage children to make each side of their haunted house unique. They can use traditional orange and black Halloween colors or create a colorful haunted mansion of their own!

Step 3: Cut Out the Template

Once the coloring is complete, carefully cut out the haunted house template along the outside lines. Younger children may need help with this step, particularly around the roof and smaller sections.

Be sure to keep all the tabs attached, since these will be used to glue the house together.

Step 4: Fold the Tabs

Fold along the dotted lines indicated on the template to create the edges and corners of the house. Gently crease each fold so the house panels line up neatly when assembled.

Take your time with this step, as careful folding will help the finished haunted house stand upright.

Step 5: Glue the Haunted House Together

Add glue to the tabs and attach them to the corresponding panels. Work slowly, holding each section in place until the glue begins to set.

Continue gluing the pieces together until the haunted house takes shape. Once all the sides are attached, you’ll have a freestanding 3D paper haunted house!

Step 6: Display Your Finished Haunted House

Let the glue dry completely, then find a fun spot to display your finished Halloween craft. It looks adorable on a desk, bookshelf, classroom display table, or as part of a Halloween decoration setup.

Kids will love seeing their coloring page transformed into a little haunted house they made themselves!

This craft is also cat-approved, as you can see in the photo below! 😁

A Fun Halloween Craft for Kids

This printable 3D haunted house is a great activity for preschoolers, kindergarteners, elementary-aged kids, and older children who enjoy coloring and paper crafts. Younger children may need assistance with cutting, folding, and gluing, while older kids can work on assembling their haunted houses more independently.

It’s also a fun Halloween classroom craft because kids can each decorate their own house and display them together to create a spooky little Halloween village.

In addition to being a fun seasonal activity, this paper haunted house craft helps children practice fine motor skills, follow step-by-step directions, and use their creativity.

Try setting out different coloring supplies and letting each child design a unique haunted house. You could even challenge them to invent a story about who lives inside their spooky creation!
